You can sign up to volunteer at: http://signup.com/go/kxjiSJZ

PD Day

A reminder that Friday, June 9th is a PD Day. The teachers will be engaging in professional development through planning and collaboration and there will be no classes that day. The school will be open only for those in the childcare program.

Also, reminder that Fidget Spinners are NOT to be brought to class. If they are brought to school, they are to remain in your child's backpack and can be used before/after school or at recess. (Please see previous post about fidgets as tools rather than toys.)

Biography Project and Research Project Updates

Students have been working hard on their biography projects since last Friday. We have been fortunate to have the chromebooks for 4 whole blocks (of 75 mins each) and many students have made great progress or are done their project. If students are done their project early, they can schedule a presentation date with me before June 14. Otherwise, presentations will begin on Wednesday, June 14. We will not have access to the chromebooks very much between now and the June 14th deadline for the project so students are encouraged to work on it from home.

Can't remember when you're presenting? Check out the Calendar of Presentation Dates

Receipts for EAP Ventures

Reminder that all receipts being submitted for reimbursement for items, materials, etc. purchased to make products are due NO LATER THAN Monday, June  5.  Unfortunately, late receipts will not be accepted.

Proper Use of Fidgets in the Classroom

Over the past few weeks I have noticed many more students bringing things to school and saying that they are to be used as fidgets. I have explained to the class that I will support them and allow them to do what is best for them and their learning so that they can succeed. However, there is a difference between a fidget and a toy and when something is a distraction to others it doesn't work for the class. Here is a useful video that helps explain the correct use of fidgets in the classroom and some examples of what can be used as a fidget.

Math Homework Due Tomorrow

Today we began division without remainders. We started by watching the following video:

And then worked on answering the following questions:

Students then had a total of 36 questions to answer during class time and as homework (due tomorrow). Many students chose to "chew and do" during snack and to stay inside for part of the morning recess to continue to work so they could ask me questions as they worked.

Change to tonight's agenda

Today students wrote in their Agenda to complete Religion and have it signed. Unfortunately we did not get to this activity today (we will be doing it tomorrow instead).

Students have been given a copy of the book and reminded that it is their responsibility to return it in the same condition in which they received it. Today students also received a red duotang that contains the list of jobs, their group number, and the weekly readings and due dates. Jobs are due each Thursday which gives students plenty of time to complete their assigned job. Please note, it is very important that students follow the schedule for their assigned job each week as this will help with the group's weekly discussions.

EAP Update

Tomorrow morning our business partner will be joining us and the top Charities from each class will be presenting to the group. From our class, we had a tie for the top charity between DIFD and Tyson's Wish. These 2 groups will join the lead charities from Miss Beardsley and Ms Arcuri's classes and then the group will vote for the charity we want to support with our EAP endeavours. Great job everyone! I really enjoyed watching all of your presentations and seeing how passionate you all were about your charities! :)
